Emails to all Town Meeting Members

I'm a bit confused. I'd hoped that this forum would be the place for communications about warrant articles and no longer would we need to send and receive membership-wide emails advocating for and against articles. Given the one we received today, I am forced to ask, do members feel we should be doing one or the other or both? Are people reading this forum or do they prefer direct email advocacy? I'd love to know how to best proceed.

  • a mixture of both....email might be easier for some....I think the forum is off to a slow start, but it has great potential

  • Brian, my objective was to reach as many TMM as possible, while also not getting into a back and forth. I simply wanted to make my opinion on the Article known. I felt an email to all TMM best accomplished that objective. Even with the creation of this association/discussion board, I think all TMM should still free to advocate as they see fit.

  • I really don't like the use of email to all TMM for advocacy purposes among members because it cuts the public off from that discourse. These discussion boards are specifically intended to remedy that--let us share our thoughts and discuss outside of the floor of Town Meeting, but in an open and public way. Residents can and should email as many or all TMM they want to voice their support or opposition on articles. But in my opinion, if you're a TMM and you want your thoughts to be shared with all of TM -- especially if you are advocating regarding a specific article -- you have to do it here or during the meeting.

  • My vote is for both, although I would prefer and encourage more TMM(R) to use these discussion boards. I don't see any prohibition to sending an email, if that's your preferred method of communication, AND cross posting the text of the email on this discussion group.

  • We need to put out a poll...what people prefer. We are at 1 for email, 2 for both and 1 for TMMA board. I forget if this question was ever asked of Town Meeting Members. Anyone remember?
